Staff

Southern Sudan Project is 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has a small executive staff and a crew of volunteers to handle all operational and administrative duties. We take pride in being a small organization whose vision and partnerships are global. Our main office is located in Richmond, VA. SSP also has regional representation in Atlanta, Denver, Orlando, Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia and Hartford, CT. Please meet our staff.

 

Founder/Executive Director​
William Deng

​​As Executive Director, Mr. Deng is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization. He directs the operations through strategic planning and management. Responsibilities include meeting with national and international civic and political leaders for peacemaking and alliance with South Sudan, campaigning for social justice and human rights on behalf of marginalized Sudanese, decision making for participation in national conferences, speeches and community events.

Mr. Deng holds Bachelor’s of Arts degrees in Homeland Security and Political Science from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). In 2008, William was presented with the ‘Black History in the Making’ Award by Department of African American Studies at VCU. He also serves as Founder/Executive Director of Total Access Preparatory Academy (TAPA) based in Richmond, VA, Chairman of Aweil Youth Association in USA, Associate Professor in the Department of Homeland Security at VCU, Founder and Director of Outreach for Dinka Christian Fellowship Church of Richmond, VA, Director of Humanitarian Aid & Development for Sudanese Marginalized Forum and Founder of Sudanese Marginalized Dialogue.

Executive Assistant​
Etaniel Ben Yehuda
As Executive Assistant, Mr. Ben Yehuda is responsible for administrative and operational support to the Executive Director/Southern Sudan Project. His duties include maintaining solid communication with corporate/governmental/community partners, database management, event organizing for speeches/conferences/community events, screening and supervision of volunteers and processing all fiscal & non-fiscal donations. ​​

​Etaniel has several years of experience in nonprofit program management, volunteer management/supervision, youth & community development and education administration. He received a formal education in International Studies with a minor in African Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Director of Development/Fundraising
The Director of Development plays an integral part in SSP’s growth and security as a nonprofit organization. The responsibilities are developing and executing Southern Sudan Project annual fundraising plan, securing financial support from individuals/foundations/corporation, managing the development staff responsible for data entry and gift processing. Additionally, the Director will develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors, while executing strategic management of the sustained base of annual individual donors. Proposals and tracking reports will be created. The Director of Development reports to the Executive Director.

Regional ​Representatives
Southern Sudan Project’s regional representatives cover the entire continental United States. They are mainly comprised of Sudanese American and regional community partners who believe in the mission and purpose of the organization. Their functions ranges from Events Coordination, organizational and strategic management, administrative support, PR/media support, decision making and facilitation. We are excited to have such a wonderful and energetic team that works diligently for humanitarian rights.

Southern Sudan Project relies on volunteers for support in administration, media/PR and in a variety of other ways. Volunteers and interns will learn about the nonprofit sector, humanitarian issues and Sudan when you join the SSP team. There are opportunities to represent the organization at national events, local and regional community-oriented events or engage in scholarly research for upcoming projects.
